Make different time zones work for you

Multiple projects that lead to multiple tasks that lead to multiple deadlines. Things come late in the day and can often get pushed to tomorrow, meaning you or your staff come into work with pressure from the get-go. 

Sometimes it can feel like there isn’t enough time in the day. But what if you could make that time?

Outsourcing overseas has many benefits – having a team working in a different timezone to relieve pressure and workload is certainly one of the major pluses. It allows you to increase your team’s productivity by effectively lengthening the work cycle beyond the traditional 8-hour work day.

It also gives you and your team time to re-focus. A team overseas gives you the capacity to manage other projects and clients, while the admin based tasks are being handled outside your office hours. This boosts morale in-house, and allows a new kind of freedom knowing you have the necessary support where needed.

With extra resource and ability to “get things done before 9am tomorrow” your business model changes, your company culture changes. No more all-nighters, your team and you and can head home knowing your offshore team have the job in hand.

All it takes is a little organisation, consider the following:

  • Hire right: You want to bring on team members who are capable of owning projects and seeing them through. Finding these people frees you to work more, and manage less.
  • Be flexible: Meetings might be later or early, so consider ways to support your offshore team, and limit long meetings that put extra strain on your/their day.
  • Check in: Jump on calls to see how things are going or assign each overseas member an in-house ‘partner’ to ensure everyone is on the same page.
  • A virtual water cooler: Staying in touch is easy! To help outsourced staff stay connected, create a team chat app (Slack, Google Chat) and encourage conversation and open lines of communication.
